What Do You Want? (Re-Loaded)

(Another blog re-loaded from a few months back. Hope you enjoy, again!)

Recently I was asked what it is I want to do in life. If you’ve been reading my posts for awhile and have been paying attention, you all should know me well enough by now to know a simple question can send me on a quest… diving into caves and searching for truth. Well, here we go again!

Cue the music. Grab your oxygen tanks. Press play on the video below. Let’s dive.

How many of us really know what it is we WANT? We seem to know what it is we don’t want or even what we don’t like. But when presented with a simple question of “What do you want?” we’re stumped. Why IS that? Are we so conditioned to look for the negatives that we forget the positives? When did we stop dreaming and believing in all we are capable of doing in life? Is that what it is… we’ve forgotten how to dream BIG?

Most people will respond to a question like “what do you want?” with the answer of “more money” (not surprising in today’s economy). Is it really the money that you want or is it what the money can do for you? I think once you dive deeper to see what it is you feel the money can do, you will finally find your deepest desire… your purpose in life.

Forget the money.

Forget all your doubts.

Forget the opinions of others.

Forget any obstacles.

Forget all the reasons why you can’t.

…Close your eyes…

What do you want to do in life?

What do you want out of life?

What does your perfect life look like?

What makes you excited to wake up in the morning?

When you leave this earth and this body, how do you want to be remembered?

WHAT… DO… YOU… WANT?

Peel back the layers of doubt, disbelief, fear and criticism. There lies your deepest desire. Your truth. Your purpose. Do you dare look? Once you realize your deepest desire, do you dare make a move? Do you dare make your dreams come true?
Or will you conform to having a “job”, a white house with a picket fence, the 2.2 kids and 3.4 cars because that’s what everyone else is doing?

There comes a point in life where conforming to the “norm” is no longer satisfying. It’s no longer enough. It’s no longer the right thing to do FOR YOU…. because you finally realize what it is you WANT in life. But is it too late? No… it’s never too late to have joy in your life. The key here is realizing what you want then having the intestinal fortitude to go after it. I’ve definitely hit that point in my life. Refusing to conform any longer. Unwilling to stick to the conventional. Risking it all to follow my dreams.

Foolish? Perhaps. Brave? Maybe. A little of both? More than likely.

I don’t know what will happen down this road. I don’t know what lies ahead on this journey. I DO know that I finally realize what it is I really want. Now it’s time to make it happen. To find a way. To keep trying until I succeed. I may stumble along the way. I may fail miserably. Or I may be pleasantly surprised by ultimate success on the first try. Regardless of what happens, I’ll know that I went for it.

Will you go for it, too?

Blessings,
Tula Rainwater

One Response to “What Do You Want? (Re-Loaded)”

  1. Bill Rowe says:

    Hey Tula,

Great post! A quote from one of my favorite books says it all. “Dream is Thought and Thought Is The Secret To All Attainment” – Master Key System.

We all dream. Sometimes it may be just dreaming of getting something we’ve always wanted. Or you may just want to get just a bit further ahead in life or you may think about what it would be like to have all of your bills paid for. It may just be a thought at the time, but even if for but a moment, we see that dream in our mind as we would like it to be.

But most only dream of it. The truth is, what ever you dream of can be yours. But only if you decide to take action and make the dream become reality. Keep the dream alive. Visualize it. Focus on it until it comes to fruition.
