Forgiveness Towards Others to Free Yourself

Forgiveness is the hardest thing for most people to do, especially if one has been wronged very deeply. Most stand defiant against forgiving others because of what they believe forgiveness is about. They have been wronged and they want everyone to know how badly they’ve been wronged and who did it to them. Where does this leave most people? Angry, bitter, enraged, wanting vengeance, trapped, enslaved.

A fire burns within. A fire so strong that no amount of firetrucks can tame the flames. What do flames do? They destroy… everything in their path.

This is why it is written and spoken over and over again that the best thing to do for yourself is to FORGIVE. If you allow those flames of anger, bitterness, rage to continue, they will burn you inside out. In essence, the flames will eat you alive and all you will be left with is an empty shell.

Why should I forgive?, you say. Again, so you can move on in life. So you can be freed of torment and be happy again.

But this person did some very bad things to me. And God will take care of that for you. It’s not up to you to dish out the punishment. It’s up to you to heal yourself and move on. The only way to heal yourself and move on is to forgive.

If I forgive that means I’m showing everyone that what this person did to me is fine.. No. Forgiving doesn’t make anything ok about the other person. Forgiving is not about THEM… it’s about you.

This is a very difficult concept for people to grasp. I know it is. It took me 3 years to forgive my ex. Yet I finally got there (Thank God)! In the act of forgiving, I found peace within and the ability to release my soul onto better and bigger things. Not forgiving left me stuck and tormented for a long time.

You have to move on. You have to keep going. You have to take what you can as lessons learned from the situation. Pick up the pieces. Build anew. Staying stuck in anger and torment keeps you from creating a beautiful and better life for yourself. You must forgive.

Again, I will not claim this is easy. It took me 3 years. It’s also a very difficult concept to wrap your mind and heart around. So, I wanted to post a link I was recently given that will hopefully help anyone needing to pass into the realm of forgiveness. This audio explains what forgiveness is NOT as well as what it is and how to go about it. I hope you enjoy this audio and that it helps some of you on your journey to forgiveness.
